Let’s Talk About: Addiction and Public Health

Join us on Wednesday, March 20 for a presentation by Dr. Evan Wood on addiction and public health. Dr. Wood is Co-Director of the Urban Health Research Initiative at the BC-CfE and Canada Research Chair for Inner City Medicine.

Addiction is one of the most difficult problems facing our society today. Addiction harms not only an individual’s health, but also their family and community. This presentation is intended for anyone who has been affected by addictions or those who just want to know more about it. The presentation will focus on the types addictions, possible causes, problems arising, and basics of management. The presentation will also highlight the latest in treatment and the ongoing research at St. Paul’s Hospital.

The BC-CfE Laboratory is streamlining reporting processes for certain tests in order to simplify distribution and record-keeping, and to ensure completeness of results. Beginning September 2, 2025, results for the ‘Resistance Analysis of HIV-1 Protease and Reverse Transcriptase’ (Protease-RT) and ‘HIV-1 Integrase Resistance Genotype’ tests will be combined into a single ‘HIV-1 Resistance Genotype Report’.
