Treatment as Prevention captures imagination of policy makers

Vancouver has hosted the International HIV Treatment as Prevention Workshop before, but this time feels different to Dr. Julio Montaner.

For the first time, foreign governments are sending high-ranking dignitaries to attend the conference to learn more about the made-in-Vancouver strategy that could pave the way for an AIDS-free generation.

The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, health minister of Malawi and deputy health ministers from Uganda and Argentina are among the political representatives scheduled to join international HIV/AIDS experts at the workshop.

The award-winning treatment as prevention model argues that treating HIV patients with highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) doubles as an effective tool against the spread of the incurable virus.
