How have Canadian attitudes towards marijuana changed?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Canadian attitudes towards pot have been consistent over the last half a century according to the Director of The International Centre for Science in Drug Policy Dan Werb who says what has changed is US policy.

“We are living in a time where we have seen dramatic changes in the United States around States willingness to experiment with new approaches to marijuana policy,” he explains.

He notes over 50 per cent of Canadians would like to see changes to our current laws around marijuana consumption and possession and believes decimalization is likely to happen in the near future.

“It’s really important to distinguish between you know blanket legalization, decriminalization and regulation. So are we going to move toward blanket legalization where marijuana is as available as candy or potato chips, I don’t think so.”

The BC-CfE Laboratory is streamlining reporting processes for certain tests in order to simplify distribution and record-keeping, and to ensure completeness of results. Beginning September 2, 2025, results for the ‘Resistance Analysis of HIV-1 Protease and Reverse Transcriptase’ (Protease-RT) and ‘HIV-1 Integrase Resistance Genotype’ tests will be combined into a single ‘HIV-1 Resistance Genotype Report’.
