Trauma-Informed Care in Acute Care Settings

In-person location: Cullen Family Lecture Theatre, Room 1477, Providence, Level 1. St. Paul’s Hospital, 1081 Burrard Street, Vancouver BC.
(If you are joining in person, please arrive 5-10 minutes early. The presentation will begin promptly at 12pm)

Following the session, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify the core tenets of trauma-informed care.
  • Recognize common behavioral, emotional, and physiological indicators of trauma in acute care patients.
  • Analyze the ways in which a patient's history of trauma can influence their engagement with healthcare, including their experiences and adherence to treatment in acute care.
  • Identify obstacles and summarize strategies for establishing a physically and emotionally safe environment in acute care settings to enhance interactions with patients.

  • Presentations will be followed by a discussion where participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive real-time responses from presenters.
  • This event is accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the British Columbia Chapter for up to 1 Mainpro+ credit.
