Providence Health Care Research Institute (PHCRI) invites PHC staff and researchers to attend the 2017 Research Day. Join us for our annual celebration, featuring a research update from Dr. Paul Man, President of PHCRI, keynote presentation from Dr. Julio Montaner, Director of BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS on the topic, Expanding HIV Treatment as Prevention to other contagious diseases – A key to health care sustainability. The 2017 Research and Mission Award will also be announced and presented, followed by a special presentation from the recipient on their work.
About the Speaker
Dr. Montaner is a Professor of Medicine and Head of the Division of AIDS at UBC. He also holds the endowed Chair in AIDS Research. He is the Director of the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS and the Past-President of the International AIDS Society. He is the UNAIDS Global Advisor on HIV Therapeutics. He played a key role in establishing the efficacy of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) and since then has established the role of ‘Treatment as Prevention’ using HAART to simultaneously decrease progression to AIDS and death, as well as HIV transmission.
