Congratulations to Dr. Julio Montaner, who was recently honoured by Dr. Juan A. Tobias, Rector of the Universidad del Salvador, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, by Dr. Daniel MartÃnez, Dean of Medicine, and by Dra. Claudia RamÃrez, Academic Secretary, with a doctor honoris causa (honorary doctorate degree) from the University’s Faculty of Medicine.
“I am humbled to be awarded this distinction in my home country by such a respected institution,” said Dr. Montaner. “I am very grateful and thank the university for this very important distinction and Dr. Juan A. Tobias for his significant work and dedication to the principles of this university. This is particularly special for me, as my Dad, Professor Luis Julio González Montaner was the Dean of Medicine at USal in the 80’s when I left to settle in Vancouver, in my mind USal remains Dad’s Medical School, and thus this was and now will continue to be for me a home away from home!”
Celebrating its 60th anniversary, Universidad del Salvador is a Jesuit University and home to approximately 20,000 undergraduate and over 8,000 graduate students. It is the sister university of the Colegio del Salvador where Pope Francis once taught literature and psychology before his ordination, in 1966, and where in the late 1980s, he served as spiritual director and confessor.
Dr. Juan A. TobÃas highlighted Dr. Montaner’s many academic and scientific contributions in addition to his advocacy work and “commitment to knowledge, education, and service to society.”
Dr. Julio Montaner joins a select group of people who have received a doctor honoris causa from Universidad del Salvador such as Mrs. Indira Gandhi, His Excellency the Dalai Lama, Ilya Prigogine (Nobel Prize), Luc Montagnier (Nobel Prize), ValentÃn Fuster, Evelyn and John Billings, Edgard Morin, Edgardo Carosella, among other outstanding personalities.
