Organizers of Saskatoon’s AIDS Walk for Life are hoping to raise $50,000 this year.
Saskatchewan’s HIV and AIDS rates are the highest in Canada. Heather Byrnes, executive coordinator with AIDS Saskatoon, said the money raised will go to two agencies that offer support and testing.
“What we’re seeing is a very large group of people in our community who are not only HIV-positive, but who are affected by HIV whether it is family members or partners,” Byrnes said.
The Saskatoon AIDS Walk for Life will be held on September 22.
Byrnes said HIV and AIDS transmission has been on the rise for the past six years.
