UBC members named to the Order of Canada

UBC members were among six British Columbians named to the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honour. Julio Montaner, director of the B.C. Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, was appointed as an officer of the Order of Canada. Montaner developed an HIV antiretroviral therapy that was adopted by the World Health Organization and the UN AIDS programme in 2000. B.C. Women’s Hospital and Health Centre anesthesia expert Joanne M. Sullivan Douglas, geography professor emeritus Olav Slaymaker and former senator and honorary degree recipient Jack Austin were named members to the Order. Click here for more information.
