HIV prevention group Latinos Salud opens office in Kendall

Latinos Salud, an HIV prevention group that began in Broward in 2008, has just opened a new office in Kendall.

“There is stigma when we are talking about sex for Latinos and Hispanics. In regards to dating someone who is living with HIV, there is stigma. As a very big community in Miami, we have to deal with addressing the stigma,” says Juan Oves Jr., the group’s youth and transgender coordinator.

Oves, who grew up in Westchester and West Kendall, recently told the Miami Herald, “I talk to my youth about treatment as prevention, and surprisingly a lot of them don’t know what that means.”

The new office is located at 9580 SW 107th Ave. in Kendall. Call 786-801-1803 for information.

“Stop by Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for free HIV or STD testing, condoms, and community events,” the group said in a recent mailing.

The BC-CfE Laboratory is streamlining reporting processes for certain tests in order to simplify distribution and record-keeping, and to ensure completeness of results. Beginning September 2, 2025, results for the ‘Resistance Analysis of HIV-1 Protease and Reverse Transcriptase’ (Protease-RT) and ‘HIV-1 Integrase Resistance Genotype’ tests will be combined into a single ‘HIV-1 Resistance Genotype Report’.
