Supervised Consumption Site

Located at 611 Powell Street, the Hope to Health Supervised Consumption Site (SCS) offers low threshold access to harm reduction supplies, supervised injection of substances brought in by clients and prescribed opioids as an alternative to illicit substances. The co-location of the SCS with an integrated primary care clinic also serves as a stepping stone into the care and treatment of substance use and related healthcare needs. Staffed by nurses and peers with the support of the primary care staff, the SCS ensures each client’s health and safety while using their services.

With six booths for supervised injection, the SCS has welcomed over 800 people through its doors since opening in late 2020, who have made more than 25,000 visits without a single death resulting from overdose. Open seven days a week, the SCS provides a vital service to those in the neighbourhood who use substances, connecting those interested in addressing other health issues with basic treatment, wound care, primary care and access to the safer supply program.

With the mode of consumption increasingly shifting from injection to inhalation, H2H proactively applied for the necessary exemptions and approvals to add inhalation services at the SCS. Construction is currently underway to add supervised inhalation booths to the SCS, and with an anticipated opening later in 2024, these booths will mark Vancouver’s first indoor inhalation services. Providing a safe, supervised space for those wishing to inhale substances, the integration of comprehensive monitoring and evaluation will help provide real-world evidence to inform others who wish to offer these services.
