Perfeccionan nuevos tratamientos de lucha contra el Sida

La revista mÂŽdica científica británica The Lancet, publicó un reciente estudio sobre el perfeccionamiento de tratamientos de lucha contra el VIH-Sida que permitirían hoy a las personas jóvenes infectadas con el virus del VIH-Sida, vivir una vida “casi normal”.

Investigadores de la Universidad de Bristol, Inglaterra, establecieron que una persona de unos 20 años que sufra del virus de inmunodeficiencia humana, VIH, puede vivir hasta 10 años más si sus tratamientos retrovirales comenzaron en 2010 en vez de 1996.

Cerca de 88.500 personas infectadas con el virus del VIH-Sida, en NorteamŽrica y Europa, participaron en el estudio. Los investigadores analizaron los índices de mortalidad durante los 3 años que siguieron el comienzo de los tratamientos de cada uno de los participantes.

Ellos pudieron observar que las personas que comenzaron los tratamientos entre 2008 y 2010 fueron menos numerosas en morir en ese período que las que los iniciaron entre 1996 y 2007.

Los investigadores británicos llegaron a la conclusión que un paciente de 20 años que habría comenzado el tratamiento antiretroviral despuŽs de 2008 podría vivir hasta los 78 años, lo que corresponde al promedio de la población.

  • St. Paul’s Hospital Ambulatory Pharmacy has transitioned to private courier for delivery of medications. We recommend requesting medication at least 2 weeks in advance in case of delivery delays, particularly to rural/remote parts of BC. (Contact Information: Phone 1-800-547-3622; FAX 604-806-8675)

During the Canada Post strike, we recommend that documents be faxed or couriered to our sites, versus utilization of regular mail service

The BC-CfE Laboratory is streamlining reporting processes for certain tests in order to simplify distribution and record-keeping, and to ensure completeness of results. Beginning September 2, 2025, results for the ‘Resistance Analysis of HIV-1 Protease and Reverse Transcriptase’ (Protease-RT) and ‘HIV-1 Integrase Resistance Genotype’ tests will be combined into a single ‘HIV-1 Resistance Genotype Report’.
