Peace River walks for life

About 40 people took to the downtown streets Saturday afternoon to ‘walk for life.’ The third annual Scotiabank AIDS Walk For Life to raise funds and awareness for people living with HIV and AIDS took place under sunny skies, raising $6,255.50 for HIV North Society. “The money raised will stay in the community,” Brandi Coveny, regional outreach worker with HIV North, told the crowd.

The group walked through downtown, stopping at River City Cinema’s for free popcorn for all before returning to the park where Jeff and Suzanne McCann entertained the crowd after organizers thanked the many sponsors and participants.

There were prize packages for the youngest and oldest walkers, as well as those who raised the most money.

Peace Riverite Johanna Downing raised the most money by an individual, which was $140 (plus an unofficial $50 somebody committed to through text message). River City Cinemas raised the most as a group: $4,943. Also Jacob Heaney and Chaya Paul raised $368 together.

The BC-CfE Laboratory is streamlining reporting processes for certain tests in order to simplify distribution and record-keeping, and to ensure completeness of results. Beginning September 2, 2025, results for the ‘Resistance Analysis of HIV-1 Protease and Reverse Transcriptase’ (Protease-RT) and ‘HIV-1 Integrase Resistance Genotype’ tests will be combined into a single ‘HIV-1 Resistance Genotype Report’.
