Michel SidibŽ, leading HIV advocate, receives honorary doctorate of science from UBC

Michel SidibŽ, executive director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and pioneer in HIV prevention and treatment throughout the world, recently received an honorary doctorate of science from UBC.

Currently the executive director of UNAIDS, SidibŽ has spent over 30 years fighting for health, education and human rights across the world. As part of his lifelong commitment to public service, SidibŽ has also spent 14 years working for UNICEF, where he served as representative for several African countries.

At a graduation ceremony that happened to coincide with SidibŽ’s birthday on May 28, UBC recognized SidibŽ for his exceptional work in HIV prevention and treatment around the world.

Invited to take the podium, SidibŽ took this time to thank and impart inspirational words to the graduating class before him.
