Michel Sidib, executive director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and pioneer in HIV prevention and treatment throughout the world, recently received an honorary doctorate of science from UBC.
Currently the executive director of UNAIDS, Sidib has spent over 30 years fighting for health, education and human rights across the world. As part of his lifelong commitment to public service, Sidib has also spent 14 years working for UNICEF, where he served as representative for several African countries.
At a graduation ceremony that happened to coincide with Sidib’s birthday on May 28, UBC recognized Sidib for his exceptional work in HIV prevention and treatment around the world.
Invited to take the podium, Sidib took this time to thank and impart inspirational words to the graduating class before him.
