What You Will Do

Summary

Reporting to the IT Manager or their delegate, this position provides BC-CfE staff with a stable and reliable work environment by troubleshooting IT issues. Participates in review of user needs and coordinates desktop installation, configuration, and deploying updates. Responsible for monitoring licensing compliance and ensuring systems are backed up appropriately.

What You Bring

Education

  • Graduation from a two (2) year computer systems technology diploma program plus three (3) to five (5) years’ recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of technology, hardware, networks and operating systems.
  • Advanced Knowledge of Apple and Windows OS.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prioritize work, and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to problem-solve and develop solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
  •  Ability to use related equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Your Day to Day:

  • Provides Desktop support to all BC-CfE staff on IT related inquiries.
  • Responsible for identifying and troubleshooting user needs, issues and concerns related to desktop and phone device issues.
  • Ensures issues are fully resolved and/or re-assigned to other IT staff as appropriate.
  • Maintains software applications and monitors licensing compliance for maximizing efficiency and appropriateness.
  • Installs, tests, and configures new workstations, peripheral equipment and software.
  • Provides or coordinates the provision of user training and demonstrations.
  • Responsible for user account management, including BC-CfE account creation, password resets, application access and deactivating user accounts.
  • Assists with the administration of global address books, email groups.
  • Participates in committees and meetings internal/externally as required.
  • Provide support with video recording, projectors, monitors, computers, phones, webinars and related items.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

The BC-CfE Laboratory is streamlining reporting processes for certain tests in order to simplify distribution and record-keeping, and to ensure completeness of results. Beginning September 2, 2025, results for the ‘Resistance Analysis of HIV-1 Protease and Reverse Transcriptase’ (Protease-RT) and ‘HIV-1 Integrase Resistance Genotype’ tests will be combined into a single ‘HIV-1 Resistance Genotype Report’.
