Vancouver Coastal Health to change delivery of Downtown Eastside health services

Health authority says new services will focus on removing barriers for people with challenges.

Vancouver Coastal Health will begin implementing changes this fall in the delivery of its health services and programs in the Downtown Eastside.

VCH said Thursday it doesn’t plan to change the amount of funding — $55 million a year – but says new community-based services and programs will be funded by reallocating resources.

Dr. Julio Montaner, director of the B.C. Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, endorsed the plan, saying the new services will expand treatment options and provide better access to care for those who have significant untreated health issues.
