Roberts Creek resident and Simon Fraser University researcher Robert Hogg officially joined the Order of Canada Feb. 1 in an investiture ceremony at Rideau Hall.
Hogg was among 125 new appointments to the order announced by Gov. Gen. Julie Payette in December of 2017, but Hogg said he was told that it’s not unusual to have to wait a while between the announcement and the official ceremony.
Hogg also said he was surprised to learn he was getting the Order, and took the official call while on the bus from Horseshoe Bay to his job at SFU, where he’s a professor of health sciences.
Hogg received the honour for his work at SFU and as a senior research scientist at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS where he studies the impact of socio-demographic factors on HIV prognosis and as “a strong advocate for increased access to antiretroviral therapy, particularly among disenfranchised populations.”
