OAS Secretary General awarded 10 influential Hispanics Canadians
Winners from nine countries and five provinces, 300 attendees
Past winners to meet PM Trudeau next year

Toronto, December 16, 2016 – His Excellency Luis Almagro Lemes, Secretary General of the Organization States, presented last night the awards at TD Bank’s “10 most influential Hispanic Canadians” 2016. The Hon. Michael Levitt is securing a meeting between past winners and Prime Minister Trudeau sometime between May 1 and July 31, 2017.

TD’s “10 most” is presented by TD Bank with sponsorship from Copa Airlines, the International Language School of Canada, Ryerson University, Seneca College, PwC Canada as social media partner and Telelatino Network Inc. as official media partner. The program is run by the Canadian Hispanic Business Alliance, this year in cooperation with the Canadian Hispanic Congress. The 300 attendees included 12 ambassadors and consuls, media, entrepreneurs as well as nominees from five provinces representing nine countries of origin. The winners by first name are:

  • Dr. Adrian Baranchuk (Arg) President of the International Society of Electrocardiology (2015)
  • Dr. Alicia Viloria-Petit (Ven) Cancer researcher and professor, University of Guelph
  • Ana Dominguez (Col) President, Campbell Company of Canada
  • Dr. Andres Lozano (Spain) World authority in deep brain stimulation, University of Toronto
  • Dr. Antonio Caycedo (Col) Colorectal surgery innovator, HSN scientist
  • Eva Martinez (Spa) Vice President, Women in Aerospace Canada
  • Dr. Guillermo Rocha (Mex) President, Canadian Ophthalmological Society
  • Fr. Hernan Astudillo (Ecu) Priest, musician and humanist, San Lorenzo community Center
  • Hon. Joseph Bovard (El S) First and only Hispanic member of the Ontario Court of Justice

During the Canada Post strike announced September 25, 2025, the following measures will be undertaken to minimize service disruption to BC-CfE clients and providers.

  • The BC-CfE Laboratory has transitioned to private courier for delivery of outgoing reports and documents. Results required urgently can be faxed upon request. (Lab Contact Information: Phone 604-806-8775; FAX 604-806-9463)
  • The BC-CfE Drug Treatment Program (DTP) will fax outgoing forms and documents to the provider’s office. (DTP Contact Information: Phone 604-806-8515; FAX 604-806-9044)
  • St. Paul’s Hospital Ambulatory Pharmacy has transitioned to private courier for delivery of medications. We recommend requesting medication at least 2 weeks in advance in case of delivery delays, particularly to rural/remote parts of BC. (Contact Information: Phone 1-800-547-3622; FAX 604-806-8675)

During the Canada Post strike, we recommend that documents be faxed or couriered to our sites, versus utilization of regular mail service

The BC-CfE Laboratory is streamlining reporting processes for certain tests in order to simplify distribution and record-keeping, and to ensure completeness of results. Beginning September 2, 2025, results for the ‘Resistance Analysis of HIV-1 Protease and Reverse Transcriptase’ (Protease-RT) and ‘HIV-1 Integrase Resistance Genotype’ tests will be combined into a single ‘HIV-1 Resistance Genotype Report’.
