Canada Post has issued a set of five commemorative stamps to honour the contributions made in the medical field by six Canadian physicians and researchers; Drs. Bruce Chown, Julio Montaner, Balfour Mount, M. Vera Peters, James Till and Ernest McCulloch.
“Their contributions to the fields of pediatric pathology, HIV/AIDS, palliative care, oncology and stem cell science changed the practice of medicine in Canada and around the world,” Canada Post said in a statement on Monday.
According to the press release; Dr. Chown was a world leader in eliminating rhesus disease, once a major cause of newborn deaths, Dr. Montaner helped transform HIV and AIDS into being manageable conditions, Dr. Mount founded the world’s first palliative care service based in a teaching hospital, Dr. Peters completely changed treatment of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and breast cancer, and Dr. Till and Dr. McCulloch created the foundations of stem cell science.
