In the Palace of conventions of Havana, the Argentine Julio Montaner specialist said that it is possible to increase the life expectancy of patients if they start treatment early and sustained.

Montaner, director of the Center for excellence in HIV/AIDS in British Columbia University, of Canada, participated in the 5th International Seminar on infection by the human immunodeficiency (HIV) Virus and the syndrome of acquired immunodeficiency (AIDS).

According to the specialist, the number of infected per year decreases proportionally to the number of people treated, which reduce the progression of the disease represents to halt the advance of the epidemic.

The seminar takes place within the framework of the eighth Cuban Congress of Microbiology and parasitology, which also began in the capital headquarters and will be extended to next Thursday.

Experts from various countries will address infectious diseases bacterial, fungal, viral and parasitic; his diagnosis, epidemiology, clinical and pathology, in moments in which there is a health emergency by the Ebola epidemic in West Africa.

Enfermos de VIH-Sida pueden vivir hasta los 75 años

En el Palacio de Convenciones de La Habana, el especialista argentino Julio Montaner dijo que es posible aumentar la expectativa de vida de los pacientes si inician el tratamiento en forma temprana y sostenida.

Montaner, director del Centro para la Excelencia en VIH/Sida de la Universidad British Columbia, de Canadá, participa en el V Seminario Internacional sobre la Infección por el Virus de Inmunodeficiencia Humana (VIH) y el Síndrome de Inmunodeficiencia Adquirida (Sida).

Según el especialista, el número de infectados por año disminuye en forma proporcional a la cantidad de personas tratadas, por lo cual reducir el progreso de la enfermedad representa frenar el avance de la epidemia.

El seminario se desarrolla en el marco del Octavo Congreso Cubano de Microbiología y Parasitología, que tambiŽn inició en la misma sede capitalina y se extenderá hasta el próximo jueves.

Los expertos de varios países abordarán las enfermedades infecciosas bacterianas, micóticas, virales y parasitarias; su diagnóstico, epidemiología, clínica y patología, en momentos en que hay una emergencia sanitaria por la epidemia de Ébola en África occidental.
