Information for Healthcare Providers

The BC-CfE Hope to Health Research and Innovation (R&I) Centre will operate on a novel model of comprehensive primary and specialty care within a research and innovation framework. We will focus on clients with HIV, viral hepatitis and other infectious diseases, with specialty support in the areas of primary care, mental health, substance use and other high-priority medical areas.

The R&I Centre will provide integrated and accessible healthcare to clients in the inner city with complex healthcare needs. Many of these clients have multiple conditions that can include: HIV, Hepatitis C (HCV) and many times, these clients are co-infected with HIV and HCV, in addition to substance use and mental health issues.

Our aim is to improve patient outcomes through increased access to comprehensive and efficient care.
Our work will be guided and informed by our beliefs and commitments to:
  • Evidence-based/best-practice – we will emphasize the application of best available current research and best-practice findings in a clinical setting.
  • Patient-centered care – we will provide care that is respectful of and responsive to the individual patient’s needs and values, using these as guiding principles for clinical decision-making.
  • Team-based approach – we will value and recognize the expertise each professional brings and his/her contributions to create a functional and cohesive care team.
  • Innovation – we will aim to monitor and evaluate both patient and health system outcomes as they pertain to research, innovation, and knowledge translation in order to create a template for the future of care in the DTES.
  • Quality Improvement – we will have a systematic, formal approach to the analysis of key performance indicators with the aim to improve performance.
We are always interested in hearing from healthcare providers who are passionate about improving the lives of marginalized communities, committed to the engagement and empowerment of clients with complex care needs, and ready to contribute to the creation of best practices in clinical care.
