Professor Shoveller, is a long-standing collaborator with the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. Her research focuses on social health inequities amongst young people. As the founder of UBC’s Youth Sexual Health Team and through her CIHR Applied Public Health Chair, she leads and supports interdisciplinary research on interventions to enhance young people’s sexual and reproductive health. Since taking up her initial appointment at UBC in 1999, she has served as Principal Investigator on more than 20 studies and has published over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts. She also has supervised the training of more than 50 Doctoral and Master’s students as well as Post-Doctoral Fellows. She is the former: Director of UBC’s Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP); Co-Chair of the Population Health Intervention Research Initiative for Canada; and member of the CIHR-IPPH Advisory Board (2005-13). She also works extensively abroad (Brazil, France, UK) and was recognized by the EU Commission as a Euro-Public Health Scholar in 2013. In 2015, Prof. Shoveller was inducted into the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in recognition of her leadership and contributions to health and social equity nationally and internationally.
