Forefront Lecture by Dr. Ernest Drucker

On Friday, April 13th, the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS Forefront Lecture Series will be presenting a lecture by Dr. Ernest Drucker titled “A Plague of Prisons: The Catastrophe of Mandatory Drug Sentencing in the US”

Dr. Ernest Drucker is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Family and Social Medicine at the Montefiore Medical Centre, Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, and Senior Research Associate & Scholar in Residence at John Jay College of Criminal Justice at The City University of New York.

Dr. Drucker spent 25 years as Director of the Division of Public Health and Policy Research at Montefiore Medical Centre, where he founded their 1000 patient drug treatment program. Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in the state of New York, he conducts research on AIDS, addiction, and the effects of mass incarceration, and he is active in public health and human rights efforts in the US and abroad. Recently, Dr. Drucker published a book entitled “A Plague of Prisons: The Epidemiology of Mass Incarceration in America”, which explores the relationship between the state of prisons and the prevalence of health epidemics.

The talk will take place at 12pm in the New Lecture Theatre (SPH 1477) at St. Paul’s Hospital.

During this time, we recommend that documents be faxed or couriered to our sites, versus utilization of regular mail service.
