Forefront Lecture by Dr. Eric Roth

Eric Roth, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Victoria. He has conducted anthropological demographic research with pastoral populations in northern Kenya for the past twenty years. In this presentation, Dr. Roth will examine patterns of risk and worry about contracting HIV/AIDS, specifically in the Ariaal community of northern Kenya. His findings indicate that individuals in this community are more concerned about the sexual behavior of others than their own, revealing the potential for combining concepts of worry with risk assessment for effective HIV/AIDS intervention programs in this region.

The BC-CfE Laboratory is streamlining reporting processes for certain tests in order to simplify distribution and record-keeping, and to ensure completeness of results. Beginning September 2, 2025, results for the ‘Resistance Analysis of HIV-1 Protease and Reverse Transcriptase’ (Protease-RT) and ‘HIV-1 Integrase Resistance Genotype’ tests will be combined into a single ‘HIV-1 Resistance Genotype Report’.
