“HIV in Jail Populations”

Anne Spaulding, MD, MPH, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University. She entered the field of correctional health in 1996 when she was appointed the medical program director for the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, a combined jail and prison. Her specific interests are infectious and chronic disease epidemiology in correctional and drug-using populations. Current projects include leading a national evaluation and support center for jails instituting rapid HIV testing and conducting a study of issues facing the HIV infected inmate returning to the community after serving time in Georgia state prisons. Her clinical work focuses on treating HCV and HIV infected incarcerated women.

The BC-CfE Laboratory is streamlining reporting processes for certain tests in order to simplify distribution and record-keeping, and to ensure completeness of results. Beginning September 2, 2025, results for the ‘Resistance Analysis of HIV-1 Protease and Reverse Transcriptase’ (Protease-RT) and ‘HIV-1 Integrase Resistance Genotype’ tests will be combined into a single ‘HIV-1 Resistance Genotype Report’.
