ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS Centre with an innovative, low-barrier approach to healthcare delivery in clinical practice and an integrated group of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs. A multidisciplinary team of clinicians including Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers and Peers and researchers including Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts work collaboratively to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV and communities facing socio-economic barriers in accessing healthcare.
We host and manage our servers and network infrastructure in-house ensuring maximum security, control, and customization tailored to our specific needs. About 40 Linux virtual servers are running in the VMware ESXi infrastructure, hosting ZFS, File/Email servers, Oracle database server, Application server and Web server roles. We look after about 350 computers including Macs and Windows (the majority is Mac) and about 100 peripherals devices.

ROLE SUMMARY: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Systems and Network Security Administrator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in monitoring and securing Network Infrastructure, Linux/Unix system, VMware infrastructure environment and endpoint system.
In the role you will operate independently and as part of a team to ensure our software, hardware, and related components are protected from cyberattacks. The position will include developing security systems, analyzing current systems for vulnerabilities and maintaining up-to-date software/firmware for all networked enterprise and industrial devices. Candidates should have strong IT skills and a deep understanding of computer/network vulnerabilities.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement comprehensive IT security policies, procedures, and best practices in alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration testing to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Installing, administering, and troubleshooting network security solutions.
  • Updating software with the latest security patches and ensuring the proper defences are present for each network resource.
  • Configuring security systems, analyzing security requirements, and recommending improvements.
  • Monitoring network traffic for suspicious behaviour.
  • Creating network policies and authorization roles and defending against unauthorized access, modifications, and destruction.
  • Monitor network traffic and security logs to detect and respond to security incidents in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement secure architecture for new systems and applications.
  • Lead incident response activities, including investigations, root cause analysis, and remediation efforts.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest security trends, threats, and technologies to continuously improve our security posture.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff on security awareness and best practices.
  • Build an internal wiki with technical documentation, manuals and IT policies

ROLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience

  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, or a related field. Advanced training certifications may be advantageous. Five (5) or more years of related working experience.
  • Advanced training certifications CCSP and/or CISSP preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • A strong understanding and knowledge of computer, network, and security systems.
  • Deep understanding of IT infrastructure, including protocols, network, and operating systems (RHEL, Centos, Ubuntu…).
  • Intermediate to expert intrusion detection system/intrusion prevention system knowledge.
  • Knowledge of network monitoring tools (PRTG, Zabbix, Wazuh).
  • Good understanding of different firewall technologies.
  • Common L4-L7 protocols knowledge including HTTP, SMTP, IPSec and SSL.
  • Firewall and intrusion prevention/detection protocols.
  • Packet Analysis Tools – Wireshark.
  • Good teaching, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

During the Canada Post strike, the following measures have been undertaken to minimize service disruption to BC-CfE clients and providers.

  • The BC-CfE Drug Treatment Program (DTP) will fax outgoing forms and documents to the provider’s office.  (DTP Contact Information: Phone 604-806-8515; FAX 604-806-9044)
  • St. Paul’s Hospital Ambulatory Pharmacy has transitioned to private courier for delivery of medications. (Contact Information: Phone 1-800-547-3622; FAX 604-806-8675).
    Certain parts of BC have experienced medication delivery delays of up to 2 weeks by private courier. The pharmacy suggests clients or providers place medication orders with 2-3 weeks advance notice whenever possible.

During this time, we recommend that documents be faxed or couriered to our sites, versus utilization of regular mail service.
