ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS Centre with an innovative, low-barrier approach to healthcare delivery in clinical practice and an integrated group of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs. A multidisciplinary team of clinicians including Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers and Peers and researchers including Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts work collaboratively to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV and communities facing socio- economic barriers in accessing healthcare.

We host and manage our servers and network infrastructure in-house ensuring maximum
security, control, and customization tailored to our specific needs. About 40 Linux virtual servers are running in the VMware ESXi infrastructure, hosting ZFS, File/Email servers, Oracle database server, Application server and Web server roles. We look after about 350 computers including Macs and Windows (the majority is Mac) and about 100 peripherals devices.

ROLE SUMMARY: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced System Administrator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining our Active Directory (AD) environment and Microsoft 365 (M365) services. The role involves troubleshooting, optimizing, and ensuring secure access to critical IT resources. The ideal candidate has a strong background in Windows Server administration, identity management, and cloud-based collaboration tools.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and maintain Windows Server 2019 in domain environments
  • Manage and maintain Active Directory (AD), including user accounts, group policies, and security settings.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams.
  • Administer Linux servers, ensuring optimal performance and security.                                      
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal operation
  • Implement security best practices for identity and access management.
  • Perform system updates, patches, and upgrades as needed.
  • Perform regular system backups and recovery procedures.
  • Collaborate with other IT team members to plan and implement IT projects.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations and procedures.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies.                                              

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Training and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: MCSE, Azure Administrator) are a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience as a System Administrator or in a similar role.
  • Strong experience with Active Directory and Microsoft 365 administration.
  • Proficiency in Windows Server and related technologies.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and concepts.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Understanding of Azure cloud platform.
  • Experience with ManageEngine (Endpoint Central).
  • Experience with Linux CentOSs and Ubuntu administration.
  • Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proven experience as a System Administrator or similar role.
  • Strong expertise in Active Directory (AD), including Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 (M365) administration.
  • Knowledge of Azure AD, Intune, and security compliance policies.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for automation.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VPN, firewalls).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
