SALARY:  $74,618 – $93,273.00

LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (Hope to Health Clinic), Vancouver, BC.

 

ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS Centre with innovative, low-barrier approach to healthcare delivery in clinical practice and an integrated group of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs. A multidisciplinary team of clinicians including Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers and Peers and researchers including Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts work collaboratively to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV and communities facing socioeconomic barriers in accessing healthcare.

1.0      JOB SUMMARY
Within the context of a client and family-centered model of care, and in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values and strategic directions of the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, the person promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, clients, residents, families, visitors and staff.

The BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS Research & Innovation Centre is a unique and innovative health centre comprised of a multidisciplinary clinical team focused on providing comprehensive care for clients/patients in the Downtown East side.  The high-quality care provided by the clinical team focuses on HIV/AIDS, HCV and other infectious diseases and is supported and enhanced by ongoing research, innovation and wellness promotion.

Reporting to the Clinical Operations Manager, the Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the Supervised Consumption Site.  Acts as a resource to staff in the provision of complex health care to clients.  Assists the Clinical Operations Manager in assessing clinical development needs/interests of staff, and with orientation and educational programs.  Assists in the promotion of research and quality improvement initiatives within the program team.  Advocates for client needs with the interdisciplinary care team and will serve as a coordinator of the client engagement committee for the site.

2.0      QUALIFICATIONS

2.1       Education, Training and Experience
Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field plus three (3) to five (5) years of recent related experience including leadership and supervisory experience working with diverse under-served populations in a Community/Primary Care, HIV, Hep C, and Substance Use and/or Mental Health setting, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Individuals with specific experience, lived or learned, in the downtown east side is preferred.

2.2       Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of, and exposure to trauma-informed care, violence prevention, transgender care, recovery-oriented practice and indigenous cultural competency training.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service or reasonable agreement to become first-aid certified?

3.0      DUTIES

3.1      Supervises and coordinates the day-to-day client/patient care activities of the SCS by performing duties such as supervising staff, the active and ongoing monitoring and follow-up on the work of staff, coordinating work assignments, providing critical input on employee performance, orientating new employees and calling in relief staff as necessary.  Problem-solves and troubleshoots staffing issues and assists in interpersonal conflict resolution.

3.2       Monitors the client/patient acuity and flow of clients/patients in the SCS, to ensure that staffing levels match client/patient and SCS needs.  Makes adjustments to the assignments as changes in acuity occur.

3.3       Acts as a resource to nursing staff, students, and other members of the interdisciplinary team, by demonstrating procedures, answering questions related to problem solving, and troubleshooting concerns for clients/patients with complex health care needs.

3.4       Collaborates with staff and Clinical Operations Manager by assisting in the assessment of client/patient problems and needs, planning and prioritizing behavioural care plans, addressing issues/variances from the plan of care, implementing interventions, evaluating outcomes based on goals.

3.5       Ensures workplace safety for staff including the submission of incident reports and related logs.  Participates in the development and implementation of new or revised safety policies. 

3.6       Acts as the client/patient advocate by communicating concerns to other members of the client/patient care team. Intervenes if required.

3.7       Reviews and ensures training manuals are updated and standardized and supports evolving professional development for staff.

3.8       Provides input into the development, evaluation, and delivery of orientation, in conjunction with other members of the health care team.  Makes recommendations regarding changes or new initiatives.  Participates in the orientation of new employees.

3.9       Collaborates with the Clinical Operations Leader and other team members, in identifying specific learning needs and implementing educational strategies and programs.  Presents in-service educational sessions for staff as required.

3.10       Reviews operational policies, procedures, and reference materials, and provides feedback and input to the Clinical Operations Leader or designate for changes and modifications.  Updates as approved.

3.11     Leads the monthly community engagement committee that promotes client and community direction and consultation with site activities. Prepares monthly agenda, supports members of the committee, and facilitates honorarium.

3.12     Provides input to the Clinical Operations Leader regarding Performance Planning and Coaching of SCS staff.  Acts as resource to SCS staff in the Performance Planning and Coaching process.

3.13     Assists the Nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary team in the identification of researchable clinical complex client/patient care management problems.  Participates in research initiatives and projects related to client/patient care and/or nursing practices as requested, disseminates findings, and assists in applying and implementing research findings into practice.

3.14     Provides input and recommendations to the Clinical Operations Leader regarding equipment, supplies, and staffing requirements.  Advises the Clinical Operations Leader of concerns and problems and provides suggestions to resolve problems.

3.15     Collaborates with interdisciplinary care team members regarding quality improvement initiatives, by making recommendations for QI projects, implementing processes and procedures upon authorization, and evaluating results.  Makes adjustments as required, upon authorization of Clinical Operations Leader.

3.16     Performs other related duties as assigned.
