ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE is a renowned HIV/AIDS research Centre with integrated research concentrations in the areas of Epidemiology, Health Economics, Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, and Professional Education Programs (https://bccfe.ca/ ). A multidisciplinary team of Epidemiologists, Data Analysts, Statisticians, Economists, and Clinical Researchers work collaboratively to conduct research to improve the health of people living with HIV and people with related conditions in British Columbia.
The BC-CfE also operates a primary care service – the Hope to Health Research and Innovation Centre (H2H; https://www.bccfe.ca/hope-health-research-innovation-centre/about ) – that serves clients who often have complex needs such as substance use disorders, mental illnesses, and housing instability.
JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the BCCfE Executive Director & Physician in Chief, the Senior Health Economist, in collaboration with Senior Leaders, Clinicians and Researchers, will:
- Conduct critical economic analyses which support investigations of health systems and informs decision making around innovative clinical programs relevant to the mandate of the BCCfE.
- Conduct analyses which will include, but will not be limited to, cost-effectiveness analyses, cost projection analyses, and forecast models.
- Conduct quantitative and/or qualitative health economics and health services research.
- Develop, critique, and execute decision analytic models for economic evaluation of health care initiatives linking and analyzing primary data and/or large administrative datasets.
- Research and design tools, templates and techniques to model outcomes from a clinical, population and budgetary perspective.
- Where appropriate, recruit, train and supervise designated staff to support health economics initiatives.
- Prepare health economics and services research reports for dissemination to collaborating parties including, but not limited to Ministry of Health and Health Authority partners.
- Prepare abstracts, posters, and oral presentations for submission to scientific conferences.
- Disseminate findings by preparing manuscripts for scientific publication.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience
- A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a PhD in Health Economics.
- A minimum of three (3) years related experience in health economics and/or health services research with a PhD in Health Economics. Or A minimum seven years of experience in health economics/or health services with a Master’s degree.
Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of health economics theory.
- Demonstrated excellence in the application of health economics methods.
- Expert knowledge of quantitative research methods.
- Demonstrated ability to perform advanced data manipulation and analysis for the purposes of academic reports and publications.
- Working knowledge of health systems and services.
