ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS Centre with an innovative, low-barrier approach to healthcare delivery in clinical practice and an integrated group of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs. A multidisciplinary team of clinicians including Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers and Peers and researchers including Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts work collaboratively to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV and communities facing socio-economic barriers in accessing healthcare through the development, ongoing monitoring and dissemination of comprehensive research and treatment programs for HIV and related diseases.
ROLE SUMMARY: BCCFE’s Clinician-Scientist, leads and collaborates on a variety of clinical research studies, ranging from interventional clinical trials to observational cohort studies. Our team is dedicated to advancing clinical research and improving patient care in the field of infectious diseases. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and innovative research environment.
We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of clinical research studies and will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in clinical research, enhance their skills, and contribute to impactful research that influences clinical care and practice.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the coordination and execution of clinical research studies.
- Recruits research participants from clinic(s) and implements recruitment strategies as required.
- Liaises closely with health care providers in-person at different clinics and various community-based organizations for recruitment purposes.
- Screens potential participants and obtains informed consent.  Â
- Maintains essential documents and record keeping.
- Schedules study visit appointments and conducts procedures/assessments.
- Dispenses study medications.
- Specimen handling including collection, labelling, storage, and transport.
- Collects and enters data into the secure electronic data capture system; administers questionnaires.
- Reports of adverse events and protocol deviations.
- Provides honorarium to participants and maintain honorarium payment log.
- Liaises with Finance staff to reconcile honoraria payments.
- Orders and manages supply inventory.
- Participates in team meetings and report on study enrolment updates.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
ROLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. biology, public health, or a related discipline).
- Prior experience in clinical research or health research, preferably within a clinical setting.
- Experience in patient recruitment, consent processes, and data collection procedures.
- Sound knowledge of guiding principles of clinical research involving human participants. This includes certified training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Health Canada Division 5, Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG), and Tri-Council Policy Statement 2 (TCPS 2).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with data management platforms (e.g. REDCap, etc.).
- Phlebotomy certification an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with clinical site staff, patients, and internal teams. Â
- High attention to detail with sound judgement.
