LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE), Vancouver, BC
JOB: Assists the research group in the implementation, execution and evaluation of health research with gay, bisexual, queer, and trans men. Communicates with research participants.
ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE currently employs a team of statisticians, programmers, data managers, research nurses and data entry clerks who work collaboratively on cohort-based epidemiological and clinical studies. The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS research centre including Research Laboratory, Clinical Trials, Drug Treatment Program, Epidemiology and Professional Education Programs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Writes and assist with academic manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals
- Conduct literature reviews on topics related to gay, bisexual, queer, and trans men’s health.
- Communicates with and supports gay, bisexual, and queer cisgender and trans men who are participants in the Momentum Health Study, Engage Study, and related studies
- Collect and analyze qualitative research data (e.g. interviews, focus groups)
- Understand and follow approved study protocols.
- Maintain study files and participant information.
- Maintain strict confidentiality related to study data and participants.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of research ethics protocols, funding applications, and peer reviewed journal articles.
- Prepare common language documents based on research evidence to communicate findings to gay, bisexual, queer, and trans men’s communities.
- Performs other duties as required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education (e.g. health, social sciences, gender or queer studies, business) and/or relevant work experience (e.g. customer service, hospitality, health or community services). A Masters degree in any of these disciplines would be an advantage
- Training and community-based research experience in quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods health research
- Experience dealing with community members, including effective communication skills, ability to establish rapport, ability to assess a situation and respond accordingly.
- Comfort interacting respectfully with diverse individuals with diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
- Knowledge of concepts related to public health and experience conducting a literature review.
- Strong academic writing skills.
- Experience with qualitative data collection and analysis.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Excellent time management and computer skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
- Computer competency with Microsoft Office Software or related software, and familiarity with e-mail and Internet.
- Familiarity, knowledge, or experience with gay, bisexual, queer, and trans communities
