ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS Centre with innovative, low barrier approach to healthcare delivery in clinical practice and an integrated group of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs. A multidisciplinary team of clinicians including Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers and Peers and researchers including Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts work collaboratively to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV and communities facing socio-economic barriers in accessing healthcare through the development, ongoing monitoring and dissemination of comprehensive research and treatment programs for HIV and related diseases.

ROLE:  Reporting to the Senior Director, Strategy and Operations, the Communications Graphic Designer and Videographer works to engage BC-CfE’s community through compelling and brand-aligned digital communications, including videos, photography, email, social media and web design elements.  The Communications Graphic Designer and Videographer will provide creative advice on communication project designs, such as proposal and one-pages, working collaboratively colleagues and partners throughout the organization.

  • Produce original, creative and appropriate designs for in-house materials (such as proposals and one-pagers) and digital content including videos, photographs, email templates, web and email banners, infographics, social media visual elements and html.
  • Develop print materials such as event posters and other promotional materials, logos, flyers, pamphlets and signage.
  • Render all design solutions using suitable, effective design software applications for print, web or multimedia.
  • Produce in-house videos, collaborating on script writing, coordinating storyboarding, sourcing locations or appropriate animations, filming, post-production and editing.
  • Project manage productions, with input from the Director, through the entire process to sign-off.
  • Support the broadcasting of the organization’s live events and activities.
  • Coordinate and art direct photo and video shoots, which may be on or off site.
  • Develop, organize, and maintain effective catalogue of photo and video archives.
  • Create videos that support communications strategies and brand guidelines.
  • Oversee and maintain graphic files, including logos and artwork.
  • Collaborate with communications staff to develop and maintain consistent documentation and recording methods across all visual communication projects.
  • Make design decisions based on analytical data and user testing results
  • Oversee and maintain content database of online and offline marketing materials and content.
  • Present concept visualization through sketches, drawings and illustrations.
  • Integrate technical and visual solutions into design concepts.
  • Oversee artwork to ensure that brand guidelines are adhered to.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualification

Education Training and Experience

  • University degree or diploma in Graphic Design.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of recent related experience in a digital communications role or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proven record of understanding and applying effective design principles
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with graphic design; desktop publishing; digital colour pre-flight and pre-press workflow; and photography and videography required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare layouts and graphic elements creatively and accurately in adherence with established brand guidelines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of video, web, interactive, digital advertising and/or digital communication design and technology.
  • Proven experience in conceptualizing and storyboarding engaging video contents.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of typography, colour and production.
  • Knowledge of corporate creative strategy, marketing objectives, brand identify standards and positioning statements.
  • Considerable knowledge of techniques/knowledge related to videography and digital platforms.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry trends and latest software applications.
  • Knowledge of Macintosh operating systems.
  • Intermediate experience with DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, presentation software, DSLR camera, along with intermediate photography skills.
  • Advanced MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, project management software and social media platforms skills
  • Ability to contribute to concepts, write scripts and conduct pre-production processes.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
