Minimum: $67,861.00
Maximum: $84,826.00

ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE is a renowned HIV/AIDS research Centre with integrated research concentrations in the areas of Epidemiology, Health Economics, Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, and Professional Education Programs (https://bccfe.ca/ ). A multidisciplinary team of Epidemiologists, Data Analysts, Statisticians, Economists, and Clinical Researchers work collaboratively to conduct research to improve the health of people living with HIV and people with related conditions in British Columbia.
The BC-CfE also operates a primary care service – the Hope to Health Research and Innovation Centre (H2H; https://www.bccfe.ca/hope-health-research-innovation-centre/about ) – that serves clients who often have complex needs such as substance use disorders, mental illnesses, and housing instability.

JOB SUMMARY:The Epidemiologist will serve as a primary resource for consultation, collaboration, mentoring, and applying epidemiologic expertise in response to a broad range of research, evaluation and quality improvement projects primarily based at the BC-CfE Hope to Health Research & Innovation complex. The position works closely with Research Scientists, Senior Directors, and multi-disciplinary research teams to perform clinical and population-level data analysis and interpretation, as well as support knowledge translation to inform local, provincial and public health initiatives.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contributes to implementation science research studies
  • Conducts monitoring and evaluation of clinical interventions at the Hope to Health complex
  • Leads data analyses utilizing routinely collected data as well as socio-behavioural survey data
  • Collaborates in the planning, design and development of research studies that inform clinical and public health practice
  • Assists with preparing grant proposals, technical reports and publications
  • Develops and supports analysis of various research, evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives (both academic and non-academic in nature)
  • Develops reports, papers, and key knowledge outputs
  • Identifies, researches, complies and evaluates data sources, background information and/or technology related to the research study.
  • Facilitates access and contributes to the dissemination of accurate information and educational resources to support effective public health practice
  • Maintains current knowledge of new developments, trends and research in clinical and public health research.
  • Assists in managing the day-to-day operations of large epidemiologic studies and maintenance of all project documentation files.
  • Performs other duties as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Science with some specialization in Epidemiology or Public Health (or a related field)
  • Minimum of four (4) years of recent related experience in health services and/or epidemiologic research 
  • Experience with clinical datasets and/or survey data
  • Knowledge of infectious diseases and/or STBBIs is an asset but not required

Skills and Abilities

  • Outstanding ability to work as part of a team and demonstrated history of collaborative, interdisciplinary work 
  • Demonstrated experience with scientific and academic writing
  • Thorough knowledge of epidemiological principles, research methodologies, data management, health indicator development and management, and biostatistical methods.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health data
  • Working knowledge of a standard statistical software library (e.g., SAS, STATA, R or SPSS) and relational database design.
  • Ability to identify and analyze trends and changes in disease incidence and prevalence rates, outcomes, risk factors, and other relevant epidemiological measures.
  • Demonstrated scientific writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated skill in analyzing and evaluating a wide variety of epidemiological data
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and solutions-first thinking
