The BC-CfE’s Rachel Miller, a master’s candidate working in the Molecular Epidemiology and Evolutionary Genetics group, is now a proud recipient of a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) CREATE scholarship. Miller is using this opportunity primarily to learn more about the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
BC-CfE PhD scholar Natalie Kinloch has written a paper calling for further improvements to a ‘game-changing’ molecular method used to measure the size of the intact HIV reservoir, the typically tiny and hard to find portion of the HIV reservoir capable of “waking up” to infect new cells in the body.
In British Columbia, the first full week of June has been celebrated as “Seniors’ Week” to acknowledge the contribution of seniors in our communities. During the 2020 Seniors’ Week, on June 5th we will also commemorate the Day of HIV/AIDS Long-Term Survivors, launched by Tez Anderson, founder of the US national movement Lets Kick ASS (which stands for AIDS Survivor Syndrome).

The Cape Breton native has devoted the past 15 years to moving the BC-CfE’s world leading research forward to every corner of the globe. She’s had a powerful impact on local, national, and international healthcare leaders alike with her quick wit, intelligence and passion for equitable healthcare. Because of this, it came as a shock to many this past February when the BC-CfE announced the March 31st retirement of one of its most passionate and trailblazing leaders.
