Dr. Ron Joe

Head, Health Information Management and Assistant Director of the Epidemiology and Population Health Program

Dr. Ron Joe is the Head of Health Information Management and Assistant Director of the Epidemiology and Population Health Program at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE). He is a family physician and a leading expert in substance use disorders, practicing medicine in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, where he has led multiple addictions teams. Until recently, he also served as the Medical Director for Substance Use Services at Vancouver Coastal Health.

 

Beyond his medical expertise, Dr. Joe possesses significant knowledge and experience in health information management technology. He has been actively involved in various provincial information management and eHealth committees, helping to drive advancements in digital health. Dr. Joe has successfully developed state-of-the-art tools for data management and data mining, including a highly regarded data analytics tool for Vancouver Community Health Services. More recently, he developed an advanced analytics tool at the BC-CfE, leveraging electronic medical record (EMR) data collected from clinical services delivered at the Hope to Health Research and Innovation Centre. This tool is instrumental in supporting reporting, quality improvement, and research initiatives, significantly enhancing the organization’s data-driven decision-making capabilities.

During the Canada Post strike, the following measures have been undertaken to minimize service disruption to BC-CfE clients and providers.

  • The BC-CfE Laboratory has transitioned to private courier for delivery of outgoing reports and documents. (Lab Contact Information: Phone 604-806-8775; FAX 604-806-9463)
  • The BC-CfE Drug Treatment Program (DTP) will fax outgoing forms and documents to the provider’s office.  (DTP Contact Information: Phone 604-806-8515; FAX 604-806-9044)
  • St. Paul’s Hospital Ambulatory Pharmacy has transitioned to private courier for delivery of medications. (Contact Information: Phone 1-800-547-3622; FAX 604-806-8675).
    Certain parts of BC have experienced medication delivery delays of up to 2 weeks by private courier. The pharmacy suggests clients or providers place medication orders with 2-3 weeks advance notice whenever possible.

During this time, we recommend that documents be faxed or couriered to our sites, versus utilization of regular mail service.
