The Chinese government has announced it will use a treatment strategy developed in B.C. to combat the spread of HIV and AIDS in China.
The country has 740,000 people infected with HIV and a further 110,000 with AIDS.
The “treatment as prevention” model being adopted by China was pioneered by the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, based at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.
The program calls for widespread HIV testing and treatment for all medically eligible people.
