Over 6,000 international HIV/AIDS experts will converge next week at the eighth International AIDS Society Conference, the first time the conference has been held in Vancouver in 19 years.

IAS 2015 runs from Sunday to Wednesday (July 19 to 22) at the Vancouver Convention Centre and is the world’s largest scientific conference on HIV and AIDS.

The conference, organized in partnership with UBC, will include professional development workshops and sessions that will address peer-reviewed research and current viewpoints and issues.

Plenary sessions will be held by experts from Australia, Brazil, Canada, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, and the U.S.

Among the plenary sessions scheduled, on Tuesday (July 21), UBC medicine professor and BC Centre for Excellence’s Urban Health Research Initiative codirector Evan Wood will discuss initiatives that have and have not worked in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
