Local Host Spotlight: Dr. Julio Montaner

Vancouver is privileged to house some of the world’s brightest minds, and it’s enlightening to see these leaders not only continually excel in their careers, but also elevate Canada’s stature in the global knowledge economy.

Dr. Julio Montaner is a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Head of the UBC Division of AIDS, as well as the Director of the UBC/Providence Health Care BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. The Be a Host Program had the wonderful opportunity to work with him in 2015, when he hosted the 8th International Aids Society Conference on HIV Pathogenesis Treatment and Prevention. Dr. Montaner played an invaluable role, where he and his team successfully gathered more than 5,500 academic individuals from all over the world.

In September, UBC announced that Dr. Julio Montaner has been appointed a University Killam Professor, the highest honor UBC can grant on a faculty member. Alongside other numerous awards and distinctions for his work and knowledge, we would like to congratulate him on another amazing achievement!
