SALARY: $62,239 -$75,533

LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (This position will be based at Hope to Health Clinic, located at 625 Powell Street., Vancouver, BC)
ORGANIZATION
The BC-CfE currently employs a team of Statisticians, Programmers, Data Managers, Clinical Research Assistants, Data Analysts and Data Entry Clerks who work collaboratively on cohort-based epidemiological and clinical studies. The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS research centre including Research Laboratory, Clinical Trials, Drug Treatment Program, Epidemiology and Professional Education Programs. The Data Analyst will be part of an interdisciplinary, innovative research team conducting epidemiologic and health systems research that addresses critical public health issues including HIV and Hepatitis C.
JOB SUMMARY
The Data Analyst is responsible for exploration, analysis, and interpretation of a wide array of health data, including patient care, prescription, socioeconomic, demographic and survey data. The role involves developing, documenting and sharing information products for a variety of purposes, including research, program evaluation, and service provision. Requires proficiency with analytical tools (SAS, Oracle SQL, Excel), skills in programming/coding, knowledge of data analysis methodology, and strong collaboration and communication skills. A preliminary understanding of epidemiologic research, a background in health data analysis, and a passion for health equity would be assets.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant field in Computer Science or Medical Health Information, or equivalent qualifications/experience
- At least three years of experience in data analysis, as well as data exploration and presentation
Skills and Abilities
- Experience with SAS and SQL programming languages
- Experience working with a variety of information systems and data files, including large and complex files: analysing file structure; using and creating file layouts; and transforming raw data into finished products
- Experience using advanced Excel features and techniques
- Familiarity with healthcare data is an asset
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently, as well as work collaboratively as part of a team
- Project leadership and management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, and/or health sciences research is an asset, but not necessary
- An understanding of epidemiologic research (e.g., study design, bias) is an asset.
DUTIES
- Work with Scientists, Research Coordinators, and Statisticians on a dynamic team to collaborate on multiple research studies
- Develop information products, including datasets, data summaries and documentation, from a variety of data sources
- Design, build and document programming projects for analysing, managing and presenting data
- Contribute to monthly update reports for various research studies
- Provide advice and guidance to research teams regarding data quality, data structure and data analysis
- Give presentations on data analysis topics to team members
- Use and support database applications and analytical tools to evaluate data quality, applications and functions, and to produce output and maintain operation
- Contribute to innovation in product development, including researching new analytical tools, methods and data sources
- Provide data retrieval and database management for cohort and administrative health data studies
- Maintain confidentiality in dealing with all matters
- Participation in monthly journal club meetings
- Contribute to and support academic publications including peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings and other academic reports
