The United Nations in New York City, unveiled the new post 2015 Millennium Development goal for AIDS

The UNAIDS 90-90-90 target, is a bold, ambitious target to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030.

Announced Thursday by UN Deputy Secretary Jan Eliasson, the 90-90-90 target is supported by UNAIDS Executive Director and UN Under-Secretary-General Michel Sidibé. The 90-90-90 goal is modeled on the made-in-BC strategy of Treatment as Prevention (TasP), pioneered by Dr. Julio Montaner at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE).

The UNAIDS aims of the 90-90-90 target are to have:

90% of all people living with HIV knowing their HIV status
90% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection receiving sustained antiretroviral therapy
90% of all people receiving antiretroviral therapy achieving viral suppression

Achieving this would transform the HIV/AIDS pandemic into a low endemic sporadic disease by 2030.
