HOURS OF WORK: Flexible for full-time or part-time work, with a minimum commitment of 15 hours/week.

JOB: The Research Assistant works with the research team on the planning, implementation, analysis, and knowledge translation of various health services research studies and activities. The primary focus is on a longitudinal prospective cohort study examining HCV re-infection among patients who have successfully cleared HCV using direct acting antiviral therapy. Main duties include recruitment/outreach activities, obtaining informed consent and study enrolment, sample and data collection; scheduling & conducting study visit and follow-up as necessary.

ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE is a world-renowned centre with innovative, low barrier approach to healthcare delivery in clinical practice and an integrated group of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs. A multidisciplinary team of clinicians including Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers and Peers and researchers including Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts work collaboratively to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV and communities facing socio-economic barriers in accessing healthcare through the development, ongoing monitoring and dissemination of comprehensive research and treatment programs for HIV and related diseases.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supports recruitment for studies, screening and enrolment
Supports the collection of data through surveys and interviews
Performs various study admin tasks including supporting ethics review processes, developing protocols, cleaning data, and preparing grant applications
Collects back-up source documentation as required.
Develops, updates and maintains study databases and source document worksheets.
Maintains strict confidentiality related to identification and release of study data.
Conducts literature reviews and assists in the development of research projects and associated documents.
Performs other duties as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
University degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Health Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy), and 1 to 3 years previous research experience working in the healthcare field. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Experience working with and/or clear understanding of the Downtown East Side neighbourhood, the population and the clients we support and work with
Exceptional attention to detail and excellent organization skills
Ability to take initiative and solve problems
Strong knowledge and experience using PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar and similar research tools.
Knowledge of health research design and protocol development.
Clear ability to establish rapport with clients, communicate clearly, be a good listener, and have the ability to assess a situation and respond accordingly.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Excellent time management skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Computer competency with Microsoft Office Software, Reference Manager or related software, and familiarity with e-mail and Internet.
Knowledge of HIV, HCV, and social determinants of health is an asset.
