-- RESEARCH ASSISTANT (SHAPE STUDY) –

Epidemiology and Population Health

STATUS:  This is a 1-year contract with the possibility of extension.

HOURS OF WORK: 08:30 – 16:30 – Monday to Friday

SALARY:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

LOCATION:  BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE), Vancouver, BC

ORGANIZATION:  The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS Centre with innovative, low barrier approach to healthcare delivery in clinical practice and an integrated group of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs. A multidisciplinary team of clinicians including Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers and Peers and researchers including Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts work collaboratively to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV and communities facing socio-economic barriers in accessing healthcare.

JOB:  The Research Assistant works with the research team on the planning, implementation, analysis, and knowledge translation of HIV-related research studies and activities. The focus is on a longitudinal prospective cohort study examining psychosocial outcomes, healthcare experiences and treatment outcomes among people living with HIV in BC. Main duties include administrative study tasks, conducting literature reviews, writing manuscripts, contributing to knowledge translation activities, and other research related tasks as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs various study administrative tasks including supporting ethics review processes, developing protocols, cleaning data, and preparing grant applications
  • Collects back-up source documentation as required.
  • Develops, updates and maintains study databases and source document worksheets.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality related to identification and release of study data.
  • Conducts literature reviews and assists in the development of research projects and associated documents.
  • Writing academic papers
  • Performs other duties as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

University degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Health Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy), and 1 to 3 years previous research experience working in the healthcare field. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

  • Outstanding academic writing skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and excellent organization skills
  • Ability to take initiative and solve problems
  • Strong knowledge and experience using academic search engines (PubMed etc.) and software reference tools (Endnote, etc.)
  • Knowledge of health research design and protocol development.
  • Communicate clearly, be a good listener, and have the ability to assess a situation and respond accordingly.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Computer competency with Microsoft Office Software, Reference Manager or related software, and familiarity with e-mail and Internet.
  • Knowledge of public health principles and social determinants of health is required
