--Oracle Programmer--
BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS

STATUS: This is a regular, full time position

JOB START DATE: As soon as possible.

SALARY: Commensurate with qualification and experience.

LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, Vancouver, BC.

JOB: Reporting to the Director and receiving direction from the Senior Oracle Programmer, the Oracle Programmer performs a variety of duties related to various aspects of data management for the organization, and to ensure data being linked and/or extracted are logical, consistent and correctly reflect the information stored in the databases.

ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS research centre with an integrated set of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs. A multidisciplinary team of Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts work collaboratively within these research concentrations to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV through the development, ongoing monitoring and dissemination of comprehensive research and treatment programs for HIV and related diseases.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs, implements and maintains large epidemiological Oracle databases
  • Integrates relational databases into an information system
  • Develops and maintains web based applications using Oracle Application Express (APEX)
  • Creates customized reports and ad-hoc queries
  • Provides training and support to Oracle application end-users, regarding issues such as access methods, technical problems, and database policies and procedures
  • Determines and resolves data-related problems of a scientific nature
  • Conducts performance tuning/improvement of queries and database responsiveness
  • Builds business practices to facilitate the processing, cleaning, quality assurance, and review of clinical study data
  • Prepares technical design documentation to support code development.
  • Executes code development and unit test
  • Provides management with timely reports related to development activities
  • Performs other duties as required

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years recent related experience working with relational databases
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle RDBMS, SQL and PL/SQL
  • Strong skill level with Oracle Application Express framework (APEX)
  • Development experience and knowledge of front-end web technologies including HTML5, JavaScript, JavaScript frameworks (jQuery, Knockout…), Ajax and CSS would be an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to meet team and organizational goals
  • Demonstrated problem solving and organization skills
  • Strong attention to detail and proven ability to be accurate
  • Proven ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability of being able to colleagues with a broad range of backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to conduct research, risk analysis and recommend appropriate strategies/solutions
